Description
Help your students get to know each other and stay active in this fun game.
Supplies
- Deck of cards
- Music
How to Play
- Shuffle the cards and give each student one card to hold on their forehead facing themselves.
- Each round, announce a get to know you question, and start the music.
- While the music plays, students move around the space, asking each other the get to know you question for that round. When students answer the question, they trade cards.
- Once students trade cards, they continue moving around the space finding other students to ask, answer, and trade with.
- When the music stops, students freeze and listen to you announce an exercise.
- Students look at their cards and the number on their card is the number of times they must do that exercise (Jack is 11, Queen is 12, King is 13 and Ace is 1).
- Announce another get to know you question and start the music again. Students continue moving around the space, finding other students to ask, answer, and trade with until the music stops.
- Rounds continue until time is up.
- Example exercises: jumping jacks, high knees, push ups, burpees, frog jumps, etc.
- Example get to know you questions:
- Favorite food and why?
- What do you want to be when you grow up?
- If you could have any superpower what would it be?
- What’s your favorite thing to do in school?
- Do you have any pets? If so, what kind and what are their names?
Activity Prompts for Reflection
- What’s something new you learned about another student during this activity?
- Did you have the same answer as anyone else? If so, which one?
- What was an answer that surprised you today?
- If we could play this game again, what question would you want to ask others?
Other Ways to Play
- Make the get to know you questions more relatable for your students based on what you already know about them.
- For older students, have them multiply their card number by 2 to have the exercises be more strenuous.
- Have students who are making good choices help you decide the get to know you questions or the exercises.
