How to Play

  1. Have students stand in a circle.
  2. Announce a topic. Students find someone who has a different answer than them and link arms with that person.
  3. The goal is to make a circle with everyone included, having everyone linked to another student with a different answer than them.
  4. Once the circle is completed, announce your answer to the topic.
  5. Call on several students to share their answers, making sure that the students they are linked to have different answers.
  6. Possible topics to use:
    • Favorite TV show
    • Favorite season
    • Favorite animal
    • Favorite candy bar
    • Favorite sport
    • Favorite color
    • Favorite fruit
    • Favorite subject

Activity Prompts for Reflection

  • What was something new you learned about someone else in the group?
  • How difficult was it to find a different answer than someone else?
  • What is one thing you had in common with someone else?
  • Why is it important to learn more about different people?

Other Ways to Play

  • To make it easier, allow students to find a partner who has a different answer than theirs for each of the categories instead of linking the entire group together.  After each round, allow a few groups to share what their partner’s answer was to the topic.
  • Increase the speed at which you announce the different topics and see how quickly students can link up.
  • Make it more challenging by having students link up with someone different for each round. This will only work if you have a large group.
